Rossiters sits in 10 acres in the rural West Wight on the edge of an area of outstanding natural beauty, a footpath runs through the property which leads to the Tennyson Trail one of the most spectacular walks on the Island. At the entrance to the property is Rossiters Farmhouse, a thatched grade 2 listed building ,the original frontage dates back 400 years and now incorporates Rossiters Cottage.
Rossiters Vineyard Barn is located behind the main Farmhouse, it had many uses over the years but in 2007 it became a Vineyard making good use of the clay soil and the sun drenched fields behind the Barn producing some lovely wines, but unfortunately after a failed crop the Vineyard closed and Rossiters was sold in 2016.
In 2015 we decided to make a lifestyle change. After spending our free time staying in rural locations all over the UK both camping and cottages we started to look for a property that we could create our own ideal retreat, and on a visit to see family on the island, we viewed Rossiters and instantly fell in love with the house the location and the barn.
We moved here in June 2016 and began the daunting but exciting renovation of the Barn, neither of us had building experience but Steve’s engineering background and mine as a personal trainer were invaluable during this self build!
Our aim was to build a property that we would like to stay in, to retain a rustic feel but create a relaxing contemporary space and an ideal base for a holiday on the Isle of Wight.
The conversion of the Barn began in 2016 with many of its original structures retained, most of the timbers that were salvaged have been re-used to create some of the features that you can see inside.
Each of the properties within the Barn are named after one of the variety of grapes that were grown at Rossiters as we felt it was important to embrace its history and some of vines still remain growing on the outside of the building.
